In light of our growing climate change emergencies, as evidenced by the influx in hurricanes, earthquakes, and other global natural disasters, it's more important than ever to make the shift to eco-friendly living. It's about changing our mind about what we can do together for our tomorrow! 

By replacing our old thermostats with an easy to use smart thermostat our clients can stay warm or cool while using less energy and saving money. With just a little training, a smart thermostat will learn each property temperature preference even adjusting to changes in each clients schedule and suggest settings to save energy. For example, during winter months a smart thermostat will learn what time to turn the furnace down at night while our guests are sleeping. On a hot day, a smart thermostat will learn when to turn on the air conditioning so that each property cools down before you arrive from work. Lengthy short-term rental options allow for the opportunity to control the smart thermostat using their smart phones and get detailed information about the properties heating and cooling energy use. Manufacturers claim that a smart thermostat reduces heating and cooling energy use by at least 10-15%.

Imagine if every household had a smart thermostat. LH is happy to promote comfortability, saving money and most importantly decreasing our reliance on burning fossil fuels to heat and cool our homes. By replacing our standard light bulbs with LED light bulbs we hope to make an impact in reducing energy waste and promote energy efficiency. Standard light bulbs, known as incandescent bulbs, are known to be highly inefficient. Electricity is passed through metal (tungsten) filament that heats over 2000 degrees Celsius and glows to give off light. Only 10% of the electrical energy is converted to light; 90% is wasted as heat. Halogen bulbs are similar but instead have a small pocket of halogen gas that reacts with tungsten to produce light. They burn brighter, use less electricity and last twice as long as standard bulbs, but are still inefficient compared with other forms of bulbs. Energy efficient light bulbs use significantly less energy than incandescent bulbs and also last longer. LH properties use LED (Light Emitting Diodes) lighting. Although relatively new technology most suitable for track and recessed lighting they are more expensive to buy than standard bulbs they easily recover their costs in energy savings.  Because their power inputs are minimal, LED's are readily combined with solar panels to provide reliable, energy efficient lighting day and night. Simple practices like dimmers, timing switches and turning off lights when not in use help make lighting  more environmentally friendly. While there is still a long way to go before lighting can be said to be truly sustainable, the future of sustainable lighting looks bright.
